Uni-Assist

Uni-assist is a centralized application platform that facilitates the university application process for international students seeking to study in Germany. It simplifies the process by allowing applicants to submit their applications and supporting documents to multiple universities through a single platform.

Steps to apply through uni-assist

  • Register on the Uni Assist - applicant portal. and register. After registering, you'll receive an email with an activation link. Click the link to activate your account.
  • Activate the account by clicking the link on the email received after signing up.
  • Create a profile - Login and fill up the Applicant Form and Educational History sections. Submit the applicant information. You'll find your Uni Assist number at the top of the page, next to your email ID.
  • Upload documents - Go to MY APPLICATIONS > DOCUMENTS. Here, you can upload additional documents, such as LORs, SOPs, and CVs.
  • Select programs - Click on the Uni Assist logo in the top-left corner of the page. This will display all the available courses in the member universities of Uni Assist.
  • Checkout and pay - Select your preferred courses and proceed to check out. The fees can be paid with credit card, bank transfer, or Sofortüberweisung (pay now).
  • Mail the documents - certificates, language proficiency certificate, etc. to Uni Assist e.V., 11507 Berlin, GERMANY.

Uni Assist will send a confirmation email on receiving your documents. Next, your applications are forwarded to the universities if it meets all requirements. The result of the applications are sent on email and post within a few weeks.

FAQs for Uni-Assist applicants

We recommend starting at least 8 weeks before the application deadline. Application deadlines for German universities vary. Check the specific deadlines for your chosen programs on the uni-assist website.

You will need the following application documents for your application:


  • Application form (this application is generated automatically at the end of the online application on the uni-assist portal) Please make sure that the spelling of your name matches the spelling in your passport.
  • Resume / CV
  • Copy of passport
  • Officially certified and officially translated certificates  (Guidelines on certification and translations)
  • Secondary school leaving certificate with list of subjects and grades; if available: Certificate of the university entrance examination.
  • Transcripts and degree certificates.
  • For German programs: Proof of knowledge of the German language at the required level (following language certificates C1 (according to CEFR) are recognized for the German language)
  • German language exam for university admission (DSH-2)
  • Successful completion of the German part of the assessment test at the Studienkolleg
  • Successful completion of a study at a German-speaking university
  • Language Diploma of the Conference of Ministers of Culture Level II (DSD-II)
  • Goethe Certificate C2
  • Telc C1 University
  • Österreichisches Sprachdiplom C2
  • TestDaF with a test result of "four" in all four subtests
  • You can also apply with language certificates at the B2 level, however, at the beginning of your studies the required language certificates at the C1 level must be presented to the university.
  • For English programs: IELTS / TOEFL results
  • To apply for Master level study programs, if the first degree is not yet available: A certificate with original signature (or certified copy) of the expected end of the study program and that at least 80% of the achievements in the Bachelor's program (for 4-year programs; 7 completed semesters; for 3-year programs 5 completed semesters) have been completed (with current average grade)

    • Processing times vary depending on the university and program. Generally, expect at least 6-8 weeks for processing.

    The first application to uni-assist costs 75,00 EUR and 30,00 EUR for each subsequent application.

    Not all German universities use UniAssist. Check the UniAssist website for a list of participating universities. You can always apply directly on the university website.

    If you're documents are already in German or English, you don't need to translate them.

    Uni-assist will forward the application to the universities. You can check the status of your application on your uni-assist account. If your application is incomplete, you will receive information in the uni-assist portal or by e-mail. So make sure to check your inbox regularly.

    If you believe there was an error in the evaluation, you can contact uni-assist for clarification or appeal the decision. Provide any additional information or clarification requested by UniAssist during this process. The contact information can be found on their website.
